  Ham-Let adopted the Six Sigma approach:  
 
  1. Six Sigma is the most powerful breakthrough management tool ever devised, promising increased market share, cost reductions, and dramatic improvements in bottom-line profitability for companies of any size. Six Sigma should be of paramount importance to every forward thinking executive and manager determined to make their company world-class.

  2. The fundamental objective of any organization is customer satisfaction through continuous improvement in quality. Product defects will result in customer dissatisfaction. Zero defects can be achieved through the proven techniques of Six Sigma.

  3. Six Sigma business strategies to increase productivity level, decrease product defects and improve delivery speeds.

  4. Six Sigma at Ham-Let includes five steps:
    a) Define - The key process: Identify the key characteristics important to the customer along with the processes that support those key characteristics.

    b) Measure - Measuring the process. Key characteristics are categorized, measurement systems are verified and data is collected.

    c) Analyze - Analyzing the collected data. Identifying the fundamental and most important causes of the defects or problems.

    d) Improve - Improving the process. Solutions to the problem are developed and changes are made to the process. Results of process changes are seen in the measurements.

    e) Control - If the process is performing at a desired and predictable level, it is put under control. This last step is the sustaining portion of the Six Sigma methodology. The process is monitored to assure that no unexpected changes occur.
